Very few people can live in isolation. We generally do better when we have people around to talk to, share stories with, and support us. I feel this is especially true when it comes to faith and religion. Here, I will attempt to share my thoughts and reflect on my spiritual journey -- I know this will further strengthen my faith, and I hope this will positively influence yours as well.  - CradleCatholic2.0

Life after Death

How often do you think about death and dying? There are probably superstitions about it because I remember we didn’t really talk about it growing up. But as Catholic people, the bible reminds us to be ready at all times: “But of that day or hour, no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be watchful! Be alert! You do not know when the time will come.” (Mark 13:32-33)

Sadly, some of my coworkers recently experienced this firsthand. Two of them suddenly lost one of their parents in their sleep without any prior warning. Neither of them had a chance to say goodbye or any last words – and that really breaks my heart. My other coworker’s father had a chronic illness, and after a long struggle, decided to go on hospice. Even though his death was somewhat expected, it surely didn’t make it less sad.

These unfortunately events, which all happened within a 3 week period, led me to think a lot about my own life and mortality. I’ve come to conclude that death is not scary because of my faith, because I believe there is life after death. And heaven is where I strive to be after life on earth. How beautiful is it to be in a place where there is no pain and suffering, no more worries or troubles! What troubles me, however, is the possibility that my loved ones would not know how much I love and appreciate them.

So how do we prepare ourselves so that we are always ready? For starters, we can go to confession, forgive others, and always tell our loved ones we love them. May God see our efforts, and reward us accordingly!
